One thing you need to visit if you are staying in Pula is the Arena amphitheater, probably the most important and famous monument in the city. The amphitheater is known as the Arena of Pula. This was a place where gladiators used to fight many years ago. The Arena was initially built during the first century AD, in the same period when the Roman Colosseum was built. The Arena has an elliptical ground plan and a long axis that measures around 130 metres, compared to its short axis which is about 100 meters. Gladiators used to fight in the center of the amphitheater. According to some of the research conducted about this place, about 20.000 people could have been present during the fighting. These days, there are all sorts of events happening in the Arena, such as the Pula Film Festival, ballet and opera events, sports spectacles etc. The place can gather about 5.000 individuals. The arena has special gladiator fighting spectacle which is called Spectacvla Antiqva. It happens for one week during the hot, summer days.

Another place that you need to visit is the Golden Gate of Pula, which is also called Triumphal Arch of the Sergi. This place has been erected somewhere between the 29 and 27 year before our century. The family known as Sergi owned this gate. This gate and the wall have been pulled down afterwards, somewhere in the 19th century, because of the constant expansion of the city outside of the walls of the city.
